WHY

Hi gang hope every one has had a good day. Last day of the month man did September fly by! My leaves are starting to get serious about falling. We have a cold snap coming through it will hit low 50s tonight. Now I know for most of you this is still worm. To me it means throw another blanket on the bed! Close the windows and reset the thermostat on the heater.

Old Author in my bones does not like cold weather. I chervil up like an old prune! This time of the year is hard on the golfers too. Makes it hard to find your ball in all the leaves.

One thing for sure winter is coming might as well get ready for it. For all you guys out there I am posting a little something for all the ladies who are always asking why? Now I am not saying don’t read it. I am saying they are all going to be yearling at me tomorrow. They all know I would never say any thing to offend any one. Heck you got to laugh to keep the pain down!

Tomorrow I will post something special for you guys.

Thought for the day, my granpa use to say son, as you get older you will find you have good days and bad days. What’s important is learning to balance them out!

FOUR

Hi gang hump day down! How sweet it is light at the end of the tunnel. What ever happened to the four-day workweek idea? Also work you’re on hours? How about work two weeks and be off a week? The large companies in our area are hireling more and more part timers so they don’t have to pay benefits! I personally know three people working three part time jobs. We wander why people are stressed!

We played golf today. I should say I played plow the field with your irons. I was hitting behind the ball all day. I looked like I have never plated before.

My buddies kept saying talk to the ball when you hit it. I told them I would if I could ever find it! The darn game is starting to remind me more and more of what they say in Texas about golf.

It was a stress filled day and just think I have to pay to play! I hit one into a fenced in horse pasture and found four balls not one of which was mine. The horses just looked at me and walked away. I stood there looking at the balls and all of a sudden it was funny. The other guys didn’t want to get their feet dirty I guess.

Any way my buddies felt sorry for me and gave me a golf book to help me. This really didn’t help!

Well let me tell you it was quite a day. Fun was had by all, good to be with the guys. And oh yea I really enjoyed the fancy golf cart!

Thought for the day, enjoyment has many forms!

ALL CHOKED UP

Hi gang the week is clipping on by hump day is upon us. I hope everyone has had a good day. Our temperature has cooled down into the mid 80s during the day and a comfortable 60s at night. I sure would like to keep it like that.

It is not often you get to be a witness to a real hero in action but one of my friends gave me a first hand account………….

It seams old Joe Smith saved a ladies life down at Black Eye Pee Restraint.

Old Joe Smith

The story goes…

Never start choking in the South...
Two rednecks walk into a diner and sit down at a table.
Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress.
One of the rednecks looks at her and says "Kin ya swallar?"
The woman shakes her head no.
"Kin ya breathe?"
The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no.
The redneck walks over to the woman, lifts up the back of her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue.
The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth.
As she begins to breathe again, the redneck walks slowly back to his table.
His partner says, "Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver', but I ain't never seed nobody do it!"

Old Joe Smith never waited for a thank you. He and my friend walked out got in his Limo and drove off.

They had heard the fish were biting so they went down to his hi-rise to get the yacht out for some serious kat fishing!

Thought for the day, I lived in Chicago for half my life and if you lived past 149th St. you were a redneck!

This trip is about 70 miles north east of us in Oneonta Al. We had planed to go here several years ago with our friend Charley. We never made the trip. One of our group has played the course twice and said it is very nice. I am so looking forward to the trip!

If you would like to see more of the course click Limestone.

NEW HAT

Hi gang can you see it yet! Saturday is just over the horizon! Start making those plans for a wonderful weekend. Today was decision day! How to pay for my wife’s new car? Savings, loan, or home equity! I hate making these kinds of decisions. Wouldn’t be grate if the motor companies would just give you a new car every three years. You would just pay so much a month as long as you live.

Not bad we could expand this to houses, appliances. Vacations and etc! One low monthly payment. Less see at today’s market that would be $5000.00 a month/60,000 a year. Of course you job would be garneted a job to cover your expenses plus spending money and incidentals. That would give you total income $100,000 a year! Excuse me I got to call Kerry! He might have time to get this on his platform!

Jumping around the other day I ran across the sexist hat I have ever seen! They will sell millions of these. They will be fighting in line to buy the latest colors!

Half and Half

Hi gang what a day! Today was my yard day. I over did it again and oh do I feel it. I wanted to get through so I pushed. Still didn’t get through! I have to trim around the rear deck. Not that much but I was to tired to bring everything to the back. We have been burning most of the day. Ivan left a lot of branches to clean up.

Speaking of Ivan have you seen the news! Ivan is making another run at the Gulf Coast. This time it looks like Louisiana. This is the first I remember of a storm sticking twice!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the day, there want be another like today until spring. What is today? It is the autumn Equinox!

Position of the earth relative to the sun
on the two equinoxes.
The equinox is the date when the sun's vertical rays strike at 0o latitude (the equator). On this day there is equal day and night (12 hours daylight and 12 hours of night) at all place. The spring or vernal equinox occurs on about March 21. The autumnal equinox occurs on about September 23. See also solstice.

Thought for the day, I daydreamed today as I watched the humming birds dive bomb the feeder!

FLY ME TO THE MOON

Hi gang, can you belive it is hump day again! Did every one have a good day? I hope so. Man if time keeps flying like this it will be exams before you can say Jack Frost!

Our foursome hit the golf course today. Balls were flying every-where! I had a terrible front nine but came back on the back nine witch is the harder of the two. Go figure! We had a good day. Meeting at 7:30am for breakfast before going out. It gave us a chance to get caught up on the week.

My granddaughter and the children went home last night. The house sure seams empty without them. All though Megan is keeping us busy. We had to take her in for x-rays on her foot. She has a severe sprigged ankle. There goes cheer leading for a while.

There is so much bad news in the news I wanted to give you some good news. Well any way it is not bad news. Have you ever noticed how the young girls fly down the road? I think they give them self’s five minutes to make a fifteen minutes trip. Lord help you if you hang one up. She will blow you off the road when she goes by. With that in mind I would like for you to Meet Our new Columbia Caption!

She is smart, daring, pretty, and loves GOLF! If you would like to read her bio go here. Carnal Eileen Collins

Thought for the day, my granpa use to son, never try to out maneuver a woman. You will only wind up hearing I have a head ach!

HOW MISS ALABAMA WON MISS AMERICA

Hi gang wow has the day shot by. It was such a nice day I went out to the golf course and walked
Nine hole with U.A. Ladies golf team. These girls are good! Fourteen-Universities were competing.

I walked with Alabama, Mississippi State and Tulane. The Tulane girls were long but not good
Putters. All the girls did well. I would not want to play agents them. It was a wonderful day.

My granddaughter and her three children have been with us for a week. No power at home
Ivan took out there power lines. They went home tonight. My dogs are saying thank you thank you!

I sure hope all of you have had a good day and was able to get out side. There want be to many days left like today.

We didn’t watch the emeses or the beauty pageant. The kids wanted to watch cartoons. Course you know who won out on that deal!

How does a little medical student from Leeds Alabama become Miss America?

She had all the bases covered! America meet Deidra Downs!

Thought for the day, the falling leaves tiptoe by my window.

GRANDMAS APRON

Hi gang what was that movie, “Ever which way but loose” that must be how the USA Ryder Cup Team feels about now. Well by the time 2006 rolls around maybe most of the European team will have switched to soccer! Hey what the heck folks that’s GOLF!

Go ahead and pass the crying towel please. When I was a we tot or is it tight any way if I got hurt or bamboozled I would run to gamma and cry in her apron. Ah… the memories.

Grandma's Apron...

The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress
underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing
hot pans from the oven;

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even
used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs,
fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in
the warming oven.

When company came those aprons were ideal hiding places for
shy kids; and when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it
around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over
the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into
the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls. In the fall
the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how
much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch,
waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from
the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will
replace that "old-time apron" that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know and love the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER THIS!

"Grandma use to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.

Her granddaughter's set theirs on the window sill to thaw

Thought for the day, remember when things were much simpler!

IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE

Hi gang is every one having a good weekend. Auburn squeaked by LSU today. They are happy on the plains tonight. Alabama is playing an unranked team? I guess they do that to get more home game money!

Things don’t look too good at the Ryder cup but I have taken measures to help out!

Doc. is going to put the mojo on them!

Have you ever had a friend say something and you just had to say something back! Let it go, heck no! Why can’t we just let it go? Retaliation got to have the last word, smart arras! What is it? I always feel badly after the fact. However for some it rolls off like water on a ducks back.

I have trouble remembering if you can’t say something nice don’t say any thing at all! Who said that? Well it appears it is an old adage! In the movie ‘Bambi’ Thumpers father told it to him. Wise old rabbit!

Thought for the day, it would be nice to soak up books like a sponge!

“I told them to play with thais one”
Hi gang the weekend be with you. I hope everyone had a Good Friday. For those who know me you know what I did today. I will give those who don’t know me well a hint.

Ryder Cup USA is playing Europe! What a day. The best golfers in the world head to head! We didn’t fair well today as we were expected to. That is golf. Any one of on any given day could win.
Oh! It s so nice to beat the Yanks!

In an interview with Hal Sutton, he said, “I gave Tiger a ball and told them to play with this one!” He was talking about the different balls Tiger and Milkelson play. He chose for them.

Roll the ball in your hand while listening to the CD before every put!

Just think Hal is the TEAM CAPTIN! Well they have two more days to put it together. I watched the opening ceremony last night I know now where all the beautiful women are. The Pro Golfers have them all!

Thought for the day, who ever said it is not weather you win or loose but how you play the game was not a golfer!

GO WEST YOUN MAN

Woe…. That was close! Ivan yelled at us as he went by knocking out power and spewing tree limbs everywhere. We had some high wind gust 45-50mph but nothing like they had East of us.

Gulf Shores and Pensacola Florida where the hardest hit. We lost power for about half an hour. Very fortunate indeed. There are communities all around us with no power.

We live on the east side of town and most of the damage was east of us. Our town is located in West Alabama. Any way I thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. It looks like this is going to be a weekly accuracy the way the storms are coming in from the Atlantic!

Oh, by the way we our suppose to be in Gulf Shores on vacation starting today! Dah! There is not much of Gulf Shores left! Our grandson lives with his dad’s parents there. He just came in and told us they lost there home. It is under water! I think we may here a lot of stories like that over the next few days.

We are starting to get high winds again so I had better get of the puter!

Thought for the day, the wind sounds like a fright train coming through the trees!

THURSDAY WITH IVAN

Hi gang hump day has just about come and gone. All we here today is Ivan the terrible! This is a serious storm and I sure hope every one heads the warnings. The weather people have a field day with hours and hours of warnings. They are the best sales people in town. Just about all the stores are empty, food and hard ware is hard to find anywhere.

I waited in line at 7:00am this morning to get gas. The groceries stores were already packed. There has been a mass exodus away from the Gulf cost. It is a strange sight to see bumper-to-bumper traffic going South back to Florida and the same heading North away from the storm.

Hello Houston we have a problem!

I don’t know what will happen around here but power loss will be one thing for sure. So you guys hold down the fort and I will try to do the same around here. I will be back as soon as possible.

Thought for the day, I had rather skip this close encounter!

FIRE IN THE HOLE

Hi gang can you belive it is the quite before another storm! Starting to sound like Humphrey Bogy “Play it again Sam”! I will give you guys an up date tomorrow. Right now is doesn’t look good for us.

I played golf today beautiful day. Mid 80s slight breeze, partly sunny. If my golf would have been as good as the day! I hit some shoots so bad today that the only thing to do was laugh! My side hurts a lot! One thing for sure I was the center of attention today everyone wanted to know what was so funny!

Laughing at bad shoots makes one of my buddies mad. He hit a bad shot and through his club at the cart. Now normally I don’t say anything to him when he does crap like that. Today was different I was sitting in the cart! I was real cool I sad you dang near hit me with that club! He said @$&*#(*) drive the cart! I sad gale!

Back in the old days we had to walk a ways to take natures relive! It was a nice out house very well built. We kept the latest Sears&Robuck on a cinder block in the corner.

Well we were always on granpa about the outhouse. We warned him his abuse we get him some day!

All I could say was granpa we told you not to smoke in the outhouse!

Thought for the day, thank heavens for little girls!

SOMETHING TO DO ABOUT NOTHING

Hi gang Monday, Monday… I think that was a song by the 5th Dimensions. Any way it was cool. Don’t ask how I got the th to go up in the air some how I double keyed an wee-la! I am really good at screw- ups!

I am the only guy I know who can make a left hand turn and be in the right hand lane with someone blowing the horn at me! Speaking about blowing. I turned in front of an on coming car yesterday and it was going faster than I thought, so I had to get on it to get by. My wife yelled so loud at me the guy I turned in front of hit the brakes a block away. My ears are still ringing.

In the Sport News- Alabama over Ole Miss, Auburn over Mississippi State
Golf- VJ Sing over Mike Weir And Arnica is back in the winner’s circle.

Only on a Monday!

I decided that I needed a few days off and I realized that I ran
out of vacation time already. I figured the best way to get the Boss
to
send me home was to act a little crazy. I figured he'd think I was
burning out and give me some time off.

I came in to work early the other day and began hanging upside
down from the ceiling. Just then one of my coworkers (she's
blonde..it'll be important later) came in and asked me what I'm
doing.

"Shh," I said, "I'm acting crazy to get a few days off. I'm a light
bulb."

A second later the Boss walked by and asked me what I was doing.

"I'm a light bulb!" I exclaimed.

"You're going crazy," he said. "Take a few days off."

With that, I jumped down and started walking out. My coworker started
following me and the Boss asked where she was going.

"Well - I can't work in the dark," she said.

Thought for the day, ABC Quote of the day

Old Fire Station Number One

Built in 1844 by one of Tuscaloosa’s leading antebellum merchants, the Glascock House was extensively remodeled as a Gothic Revival Style cottage in the 1850s. Once a popular building style, it is one of only three remaining in Tuscaloosa County. This charming cottage is in need of extensive restoration.
This property is on the endangered list!

‘We can not forget’

Hi gang a day to remember. I hope today has been pleasant for you. Thoughts and prayers have resounded around the world today for all those lost on 9/11/01. Our hearts go out to their families.

We had read about things like this around the world but could not comprehend it happening here at home.

This was definitely a wake up call that all is not well in the world! We discovered how much we are heated in many parts of the world and wonder why?

There are many questions but few answers. There is so much that has happened around the world and is happening right now. That you and I will never know unless another scandal is brought to the attention of the world.

Hate is a terrible enemy! It can and will annihilate every one who thrives on it. We can’t say I hate you because you hate me. I also agree we can’t turn the other check and have it blown off!

We have got to be more attuned to what is going on around us. We are in this together and must do our part to protect our neighbor. Terrorism is every one concern.

Pray for those that persecute you. Ask forgiveness for their sins. To them they are right and you are wrong. We can’t turn our back on the Worlds problems. To do so would spell certain destruction of our country and all that we stand far.

Thought for the day, love cast out all evil!

Friday, September 10, 2004

Hi gang well I did get to ply golf today. It hit 90* and I shot 90. Now if I could just shoot my age!

Are you ready for some FOOT BALL! Big game tonight Miami and Fl. State. Should be a good game.

Alabama is hosting Old Miss. Tomorrow night. They stepped on us last year. Maybe this year will be pay back.

The last I heard Mike Weir was leading in the Canadian Bell south classic. I don’t know any one in Ontario? Looks like a nice course. The 18th hole would do me in. Long carry over water to the green.

I am sure by now all of you have seen our 260 million dollar hole in the ground.

I heard to day that they think all were not damaged! I wander what Nasa official was told to say that! Oh well it is just money. We are going to find out where we came from regardless of what it cost. To heck with your SSI check!

Thought for the day, my mom told me once I was just a twinkle in my dad’s eye! I want tell you what granpa said!

Word for the day; Twaddle.

Hi gang man what a fast week! What happened to hump-day? See what happens when your having fun. I have had the old swimmy had all day today. I did get the grass cut late. Tomorrow I am suppose to play golf if I feel better than today.

Yesterday Heather hit on story. Here is the rest of the story

Fans of Star Trek will have the chance to explore the final frontier in a multi-player online game based on the hugely popular TV series.
Games firm Perpetual Entertainment has secured the rights to develop the game which will allows thousands of trekkers to immerse themselves in the world of the United Federation of Planets.
The 24th century universe being brought to life by Star Trek Online will launch considerably earlier, in 2007.
The potential for millions of fans is enormous! Have you heard 9.8 billion is spent on DVD games each year!

It looks like this is not going over so I will go back to being a pain!
We will come up with something you guys like. Are hey you may just stop by to see if I am still kicking.

Thought for the day, can pain management make you forget pain?

Hi gang I am running late tonight. My granddaughter wanted a family picture. So I have spent the last three and a half hours trying to print their picture. I gave up and will go to the drugstore and get her some prints tomorrow. I have no idea what is wrong. I will take a look at it later.

My different twist does not look like it’s going to fly. I will try a couple and see what you guys want!

Here is another picture to end the story from yesterday.

It is Greek mythology. The guy is Pursues son of Zeus. The girl is Medusa. The legend goes that any one who looked at her beauty would be turned to stone. The first pic. Shows him hiding behind his shield. He cuts of her head. Her hair is a serpent. She always had a bad hair day!

Todays should be a little easer for all the TV nuts. What’s the story?

Thought for the day, why is it sometime the harder you try the further behind you get?

Hi gang windy day here most of the day. No rain? I thought sure we would get a good soaking. In stead it has turned hot and sticky.

Today is my middle girls birthday. I told here this was her gun smoke year. She is 44 today. We are taking her out tonight for supper so I thought I would put together an early post.

To put a twist on things! I am going to give you a picture and you tell me what the story is? I have a couple of good ones for you so we will see how it goes. I will tell you the rest of the story tomorrow along with another picture. Good luck!!!

Hi gang as I speak Frances is churning across Florida and should inter the gulf to night. Where it will go from there, at this point is speculation.

Looking at the national weather map there is rain every- where except in California where they need it. They are fighting forest fires!

I hope every one has had a restful weekend. Another workweek is upon us. Except for those who are lucky enough to have Monday off.

Labor Day….. the last fling of summer!

For good history of the holiday check this link.

Thought for the day, will tiger sleep good tonight?

Word for today; First.

Hi gang Frances is raging across Florida. Not as bad as it could have been but will leave havoc in its path. We will see some of the heavy rain here Tuesday and Wednesday but nothing like they are going through right now. My thoughts will be with them today. Hard to belive another is right behind Frances.

Photo Sunday!

It all started on the Quad. From 1893-1914 games were played on the Quad and later University Field, which was renamed Denny Stadium after former president George Hutcheson Denny. His tenure as president of the university began in 1912 and spanned almost a quarter of a decade.

Denny stadium opened on Sept. 28, 1929, with a seating capacity of 12,000. In 1946, the seating capacity rose to 31,000 following the addition of bleachers in both end zones. By 1988, the seating capacity was 70,123 following the addition of 12,000 seats, the press box and an elevator in 1961 and a 1966 addition of at least 17,000 seats. The stadium also took on another name.
In 1975, the state legislature voted to rename the stadium "Bryant-Denny" in salute to Tide coach Paul William "Bear'' Bryant. 1988 saw the addition of the west upper deck, and a decade later, Bryant-Denny was mirrored with an east upper deck, along with two levels of skyboxes. Bryant-Denny now holds 83,818, making it the fourth largest stadium in the SEC. Tennessee ranks first with 102,854 followed by Georgia (86,117) and Auburn (85,214).

In 1999, four additional skyboxes were built to bring total skybox capacity to 85. A scoreboard with video display capabilities was erected in the south end-zone, as well as new light towers for the east side of the stadium. A new east side entrance tower a brick facade and reception areas for the Scholarship and A-Club level patrons was also added during the 1998 expansion

Bryant-Denny has long been a stadium feared by opponents. The Crimson Tide owns an impressive 185-32-3 all-time record at the stadium, and has boasted sellouts at 56 consecutive Tuscaloosa games since 1988.
In March 2002, the UA Athletic Director Mal Moore announced plans for a $100 million renovation of all athletic facilities through the Crimson Tradition Fund. Part of the project includes expanding the north end zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium and building a plaza area leading into the north gates. The plans indicate sky-boxes, a club level area and traditional upper deck seating, creating a complete bowl. The expansion should add approximately 10,000 seats

I have to complete the story by saying….. Youth movement: Newcomers come up big as Alabama swamps Utah State 48-17. Last night was our first game. We are hoping for a good year. ROLL TIDE!

Thought for the day. Sometimes I feel the worlds pain in my mind like the constant ringing in my ears!

Word for the day; Wraith.

Friday, September 03, 2004

Hi gang Friday again and long weekend for many. There sure has not been a lot of good news this week. How simple things use to be or were they. There is an old saying “what you don’t know won’t hurt you”. For a country it can destroy you.

My intention tonight was to high light the top stories of the day. However, I have side tracked myself. Our most prized possession is our FREEDOM! What does that mean to you? I have heard some say it means I can do what ever I want! Oh really!

We forget that civil laws, religious laws, moral laws or what once was called the law of the land binds us. Yes we are free to pursue life, liberty and justice in the context of our civilized country. However what does this mean to those who are not like-minded? To those who will take human life if their demands are not made. Life means maybe the next time around my life will be better.

Am I my Brothers keeper? We have been trying to answer this for thousands of years. Now though the question is are we the Worlds keeper! Do we have a choice? Dare we back away? These are hard questions far a World shrinking more and more every day. A World that wants to teach you a new language and put before you another God!

Keep all those in Florida in your mediations and prayers. Especially Dawns parents and Vicky. I tried to leave a comment over at Vic. But it would not work for me. You know they have problems. One million have been asked to leave. Where do you go!

Hi gang we are on the downhill run. I hope every one is keeping all the people who may be in harms way in mind with Frances approaching. Right now it doesn’t look good for Florida.

The news is full of death and destruction again today. Even in my on area! Her step dad killed a fifteen-year-old girl, yesterday. Today a fifteen year old got hold of a car and ran down three children walking to the buss stop. The children think it was deliberate! Enough!

How would you like to go here?

Thought for the day, can you feel it in the air!
